BUCKFIELD – Selectmen voted to give Town Manager Glen Holmes authority to purchase a rotary broom tractor to replace the tractor lost in the shed fire at the town garage in 2005.
Holmes said the tractor was available from a local dealer, and he could get the lawn mower and broom for $3,500. He said the money would come out of the insurance from the fire account and the rental account for a broom. The town currently pays $750 to rent a broom.
The board voted to host a household hazardous waste collection this year.
The cost is $500, but Holmes has hopes that Sumner and Hartford will help share the cost. Selectman Oscar Gammon said it will be easier for townspeople to bring small amounts of hazardous waste when the collection is nearby.
Holmes said people are not as prone to get rid of waste properly if they have to drive a long distance.
The board agreed to set the next regionalization meeting for Wednesday, April 19. Gammon said they might be able to place bulk orders for culverts and save money.
Several appointments were made by the board. Kathleen McNeil and Richard Pope were appointed to the Beautification Committee. Richard Pope was also appointed to the Cemetery Committee. Beverly Bennett and Cheryl Coffman were appointed to the Public TV Committee.
The board signed the Buckfield Public TV Policy on the recommendation of Holmes.
