LEWISTON – Camilia V. Nadeau Beaulieu-Freve of Lewiston, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died on Tuesday, March 28, at d’Youville Pavilion, after being in failing health for the last three years. She was the beloved wife of Dollard J. Beaulieu, who died on Jan. 21, 1981 and of William A. Freve who died on March 21, 1989.
She was born in Orono, on Aug. 27, 1908, the daughter of French immigrants to the United States, the late Frederic and Florine (Violette) Nadeau. She was raised and educated in Lewiston and a graduate of the “Cour Superieur” of St. Peter and St. Paul School.
Prior to becoming a dedicated wife and homemaker, she was employed as a clerk for many years at Day’s Jewelry Store and Reid and Hughes Department Store. In later years, she was a fifth-grade teacher at St. Peter and Paul School and was employed as the office manager and bookkeeper of a local dairy.
She was a deeply religious woman and a lifelong communicant of St. Peter and Paul Basilica. She was very active in preserving the French culture and language in the Franco-American community where she lived and worked. She served as the secretary for “La Survivance Francaise” and a volunteer in her parish community’s Outreach program known as “Les Marchandes de Bonheur.”
She was also a veteran member of “Les Patronesses” the auxiliary volunteer woman of St. Mary’s Hospital. Mrs. Beaulieu-Freve was an avid reader, a remarkable knitter of afghans, which she donated for various charitable events for their fundraising activities, and activities offered to senior citizens at the Multi-Purpose Center, especially the dances, the luncheons and weekly bingo games.
She was the longest active election poll worker in the city of Lewiston. She worked as a poll worker in every election in the city for 50 years, without ever missing an election.
She is survived by her two daughters, Anita Collins and her husband, David, of Auburn and Old Orchard Beach, Claire Freeman and her husband, Thom, of Wrentham, Mass.; five grandchildren, Lisa Kubo, Thom Freeman Jr, Laura Freeman, James Collins, and Matthew Freeman; six great-grandchildren, Jacob Downing, Rachel Freeman, Jack Kubo, Joshua Freeman, Jenna Freeman, and Nomi Camille Kubo; her sister, Germaine Nadeau Caron; and two nieces, Pauline Shufeldt and Lucille Tanner.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Jean-Louis Nadeau, Paul Andre Nadeau, Emile Ernest Nadeau; and her sisters, Laura Fortin and Antoinette Mennealy.
