Auburn – Dolly A. Carter, 57, formerly from Lewiston, now of Newcastle and Winter Haven, Fla., died Tuesday, March 28, at the Androscoggin Hospice House with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with Cancer.

She was born in Fort Fairfield, on Jan. 5, 1949, a daughter of Edmond and Wida (Saucier) Jalbert and Norman Daigle. She was educated in Lewiston schools and worked for Montello School and Lewiston High School as part of the school nutrition program.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and married William Carter on April 21, 2004. She was a member of the New England Chief of Police Association, Maine Chief of Police Auxiliary, honorary member of the Sheriff’s Association and a past member of the Pine Tree Warriors. She was known for her extensive Christmas village collection and collecting miniature lighthouses. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, dancing and loved spending time with her family and friends, especially watching her granddaughters cheer and her grandson play hockey. She also enjoyed camping trips with her best friend, Pauline Wilder and her annual Old Orchard Beach weekends with the girls.

She leaves her husband, William Carter of Newcastle; two daughters, Martine Turner of Lewiston and Sonia Strout and her husband, Joe, of Lewiston; a stepson, Shawn Carter and his wife, Jessica, of Jefferson; three grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Turner and Jacob Strout; three step-grandsons, Eliot Libby and Chad and Ben Carter; two sisters, Martine Gagne and her husband, Raymond, of Lewiston and Rachel Jalbert of Monmouth; three brothers, Ronald and his wife, Susan, of Florida, Norman and wife, Lise, of Florida and Edmond and wife, Kathy, of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her fathers, Edmond Jalbert and Normand Daigle; and an infant brother, Joseph.
