LEWISTON – Roland Emile Godin, 83 of Lemay Avenue, died Tuesday, March 28, at his home.
He was born in Auburn, July 24, 1922, the son of George and Alma Simard Godin. He was educated in Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1942. He served his country in the U.S. Army, Co.3, 358th Battalion, 90th Infantry Division during World War II.
He was married to Carmen Lemay. He was employed at StHilaire Restoration and Roofing Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1986. He continued his trade following retirement.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church as well as a member of St. Louis Church choir, numerous candlepin bowling leagues and Friends of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
He enjoyed collecting baseball memorabilia, especially of his beloved New York Yankees, ice fishing and mackerel fishing, spending time at the ocean and his daughter Anita’s cottage, and following his grandchildren’s activities and attending family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carmen of Lewiston; two daughters, Georgette Dumais and husband, Paul, of Lewiston and Anita Burgess and husband, Craig, of Bath; a son, Paul Godin and wife, Suzanne, of North Yarmouth; eight grandchildren, Cynthia, Melinda and Gregory Dumais and his wife, Sarah, Ross, Alissa and Cameron Burgess, Jessica and Brian Godin; a sister, Theresa LaFontaine and husband, Richard, of Auburn; two brothers, Marcel Godin and wife, Theresa, of Auburn and Louis Bert Godin and wife, Lucille, of Lewiston; two sisters-in-law, Simonne Champagne of Lewiston and Murielle Bowie of Albany, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Rolande; a sister, Priscilla; and a brother, Gerald.
