TURNER – Winter/spring classes scheduled through SAD 52 Adult and Community Education include a six-night session, “Handgun Safety Personal Protection Plan.” It will be held on Monday and Wednesday nights beginning Monday, April 3. The program provides the basic knowledge to operate and use a handgun safely and to teach the fundamentals needed to shoot it skillfully. Students must be age 18 to participate.

Starting Tuesday, April 4, there’s a four-night bow hunter or hunter and gun safety class. Maine law requires that anyone who has not held a previous hunting license must take the class. Children have to be at least age 10, and those under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.

Commencing April 4 for four weeks, there will be a classroom course, “Get Ready to Ride Your Horse.” It is a new class for horse enthusiasts of all disciplines: English, western, pleasure and jumping – from beginners to competitors.

“Minerals and Maine” is a seven-week class that will begin Thursday, April 6. It will introduce students to the world of minerals. It will look at the physical aspects of minerals, Maine geological and mineralogical environments and world-class specimens that have come from Maine. It will culminate with the group attending the 16th annual Maine Mineralogical Symposium in May.

Heartsaver infant child, adult CPR and first aid will be held for three nights, April 10, 12 and 14. At the completion, participants will receive a two-year certification for basic first aid and CPR.

SAD 52 Adult Education and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center will offer a blood pressure and cholesterol-screening program from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 25. Preregistration is required. Call the Adult Education office at 225-3478.

“Active Parenting of Teens” is a six-week program beginning Wednesday, April 26, that will address parenting styles, courage and self-esteem, teen behavior, problem-solving, responsibility and discipline, cooperation and communication, adolescent development and other issues facing teens.

A one-night sewing machine repair workshop will be held April 26. Participants will learn how a stitch is formed, how to adjust the stitch tension, how to make basic adjustments, what causes a stitch to skip and what causes needle breakage.

“Resume Writing and Interviewing Skills” is a two-week class starting May 4 that will help participants create a resume and learn how to conduct themselves when interviewing for a job.

An all-day class on Saturday, May 6, will offer an opportunity to prepare for a certificate in ATV safety. Participants have to be at least age 10, and an adult should accompany anyone under 16. Topics will include ATV safety features, land use regulations and Maine law pertaining to ATV use.

A reptiles and amphibians workshop will be held Saturday, June 3. There will be slide shows, videos and hands-on experience. There will be a chance to hold frogs and lizards,
