Energy forum

FARMINGTON – A Home Energy Forum will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at the University of Maine at Farmington sponsored by students in Professor Drew Barton’s first-year seminar, “The Party’s Over.”

It will be held Lincoln Auditorium, 131 Roberts Learning Center, University of Maine at Farmington. The practical forum will be aimed at helping people learn how to save money and energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. All are invited. Cookies and cider will be served.

School forum

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington will host a discussion about public chartered schools from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, in North Dining Hall B. Dr. Judith Jones, chairwoman of the Maine Association for Public Charter Schools, will present information about chartered public schools and discuss the potential impact of the schools for children at risk in Maine.

Spring job fair

PORTLAND – The University of Southern Maine’s annual spring job fair will be held from noon to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13, in the Sullivan Gym, Falmouth Street.

The fair will include more than 75 businesses, including Ameriprise Financial, Casco Development, DeLorme Publishing Company, IDEXX Laboratories Inc., Maine Medical Center and Triumvirate Environment.

The fair is being hosted by USM Career Services and Professional Life Development and is open to all employers.

New book out

TOPSHAM – The American Cancer Society has introduced a new book to help patients and caregivers better understand colorectal cancer: “The American Cancer Society’s Complete Guide to Colorectal Cancer.”

College speaker

STANDISH – Leading environmental educator and theorist Dr. Mitchell Thomashow will speak on “Understanding Environmental Change: The Need for an Ecological and Existential View” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Saint Joseph’s College.

Thomashow, an innovative thinker who becomes president of Unity College in July, heads the Antioch New England environmental studies department in Keene, N.H.

Library project

AUGUSTA – The Maine Library Association has announced the Maine Libraries Helping Gulf Libraries project. Participating Maine libraries and library friends groups across the state will hold fundraisers April 22 to 29. The list of participating libraries is posted on www.mainelibraries.org.
