FARMINGTON – Heirlooms of Tomorrow is welcoming back Carole Rickards as Artist of the Month in April. The public is invited to attend an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 1. Refreshments will be served and Rickards will explain her work.
“Although I have a fascination with abstract and conceptual ideas, my heart lies in realism,” said Rickards, who is especially known for her detailed paintings of the animals, birds, homes, barns and landscapes found in Maine. Now living in Peru, Rickards grew up in an urban setting and rarely noticed the details of nature. Now she feels she is connected with the nature scenes around her.
Since her last show at Heirlooms she has developed an interest in art therapy. Her piece, “Movement in Musical Waters,” is at Unity College and shows the connection of people with the environment.
She works in oils, watercolor and mixed media and teaches acrylic or watercolor painting.
Heirlooms furniture store is located at 710 Wilton Road.
