Benefit supper

FARMINGTON – A benefit supper for Burt Butterfield will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Farmington Falls Fire Station. Butterfield is recovering from a prolonged illness. The menu will include baked beans, casseroles, desserts and beverages. The meal is sponsored by the Farmington Falls Fire Co.

Club meeting

FAIRFIELD – The Tri-County Obedience Club will hold a general meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Fairfield Community Center. There will also be a flyball demonstration presented by the Flyball Maine-iacs following the meeting. Those interested in joining the club or trying the new sport of flyball are welcome. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. For more information, call Donna at 778-9261.

FARMINGTON – The Veterans’ Advocate will not be at the Municipal Building on Tuesday, April 4. His next visit to Farmington will be on Tuesday, May 2, at his usual time, 9 a.m. to noon.

Bottle drive

FARMINGTON – Alpha Phi Omega at the University of Maine at Farmington will sponsor a bottle drive starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 1, in the Farmington area.

Musical program

FARMINGTON – The UMF Community Chorus and Monteverdi Singers, under the direction of Steven Pane, will perform selections from Claudio Monteverdi’s “Vespers of 1610.” The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 2, in Nordica Auditorium, UMF.

UMF music history students will give a special preconcert presentation about Monteverdi and the Vespers prior to the concerts at 6 p.m. Saturday and at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The work will feature multiple choirs, soloists and an orchestra of brass and string instruments. The 1610 Vespers coincided with the birth of opera and Monteverdi incorporated both the sacred choral and secular solo styles into the work.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for seniors. There is no charge for the preconcert presentations. Tickets may be purchased at Mickey’s Hallmark or by calling 778-7072.
