LEWISTON – Emile E. Caron, 74, of Auburn died on Monday, March 27, at d’Youville Pavilion after a short illness.
He was born in Auburn on May 9, 1931, the son of Pierre and Angelina (Bosse) Caron.
He went to Penley’s Corner, a one-room classroom; then he went on to St. Louis, Walton School, in Auburn before graduating from Edward Little in 1952.
After graduation he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. During his time spent overseas he was in the headquarter division as a radio dispatcher and truck driver transporting supplies to the troops in the combat zone. He received many awards and medals during his two-year service. After which he spent six years in the Army reserve.
After his military discharge he worked on the family dairy farm until he married Dorette L. Berthiaume Bowie, Oct. 16, 1965, whom he loved and worshiped.
He worked at Pioneer Plastic in Auburn, and also at Gerard Construction Co. He then was employed by Bath Iron Works for 20 years before retiring.
He and his wife organized the Snow Groomers’ snowmobile club in Auburn. They enjoyed going out together on the trails. He helped to build trails and bridges across ponds and brooks. He was also a member of the Progressive Workers 4-H Club’ of Auburn and St. Louis Church. He took many gardening, dairy, woodworking, and rabbit projects, receiving many county, state, and national awards. He enjoyed raising rabbits and selling them to stores. He has been farming on Riverside Drive in Auburn for 40 years. He enjoyed being outside working on his machinery and taking long walks.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Linda and her husband, David Stevens, of Palmyra; stepson, Robert and his wife, Sue Bowie, of Auburn; six sisters, Cecile Bishop, Theresa Caron, Angelina Gauthier, Eva Lebel and husband, Phillip, all of Auburn, Blanche Morin of Bristol, Conn. and Lillian Latouche of Fredericton, New Brunswick; brothers, Louis Jimmy’ Caron and wife, Rita, Arthur Caron and wife, Patricia, all of Auburn; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorette on Aug. 11, 2002; his parents; and brother, Gerard Caron on July 27, 2005.
