BIDDEFORD – Liz Bergeron came on to record a save in each game as the University of Maine Farmington held the University of New England scoreless for 14 innings to sweep a non-conference doubleheader, 3-0, 1-0, at Claude Dubois Field on Thursday.

The sweep ups the Beavers’ record to a perfect 6-0, while the Nor’easters drop to 2-4.

In the opening contest, Farmington broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth when Megan McCrum delivered a two-run single to score Kristi Cochin and Mary Berry. The Beavers added an insurance run in the seventh on a UNE error.

Lauren Stacey worked the first 5 1/3 innings to up her record to 3-0. She allowed three hits, walked none and struck out three. Bergeron was summoned with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the sixth and promptly got a pop out and strikeout to squelch UNE’s rally.

In the second game, the Beavers scored the game’s only run in the first. After the first two batters were retired, Berry walked and went to second on a single by Megan Goodrow. Holly Tripp followed with a line drive to right field, which was dropped, allowing Berry to cross the plate with the eventual winning run.
