STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Jenna Balent fired her second two-hit shutout in as many days to lead Maine to a 1-0 softball victory over Stony Brook.

Maine (20-12), which has won four of its last five games, was also limited to two hits. The lone ruin was scored in the fourth inning when Brittany Cheney led off with a single and eventually scored on a two-out error.

Bowdoin sweeps

BRUNSWICK – Danielle Chagnon hit two doubles and a triple to leasd Bowdoin to a 9-1 win over Plymouth State in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Karen Reni allowed five hits and fanned six before the game was called in the fifth inning.

The Polar Bears (7-11) rallied in the second game for a 3-1 win.

Babson sweeps USM

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Erica Barry drove in the game’s only run with a two-out double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Babson to a 1-0 win and a sweep of USM.

USM pitcher Bre Loon of Jay, who had scattered two hits through seven innings, began the tie-breaking inning with a runner on second base. Robyn Woodruff lined a one-out single, but Kimberly D’Agostino was thrown out at home by right fielder Caitlin Stivaletta. Barry then followed with her second hit of the game. Babson (14-4) won the opener 1-0.

UNE, NEC split

BIDDEFORD – Karcha Turner, who played at Oxford Hills, had a three-run double for UNE in the opener of a 6-3 defeat.

Bowdoin 11, Trinity 5

HARTFORD, Conn. – Bowdoin salvaged the final game of a three-game weekend series with Trinity by scoring nine runs over the final four innings for a 11-5 victory.

Ricky Leclerc belted a three-run home run in the sixth inning to snapp a 2-2 tie.
