AUBURN – Rosaire A. Bechard, 78, of 26 Bolster St., Auburn, died Saturday, April 1, at Bolster Heights Nursing Home, after a short illness.

He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 2, 1927, the son of Albert and Laura (Dion) Bechard and had been a resident of this community all of his life. He was educated in Lewiston schools.

He married the former Muriel Bertrand. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed at BIW, he was a cab driver for Fern’s Taxi for many years, also worked at Knapp Shoe for 11 years, and a custodian for the City of Lewiston for more than 10 years, retiring in 1989.

He is survived by his wife, Muriel Bechard of Auburn; two son, Hervey Bechard of Florida and Roland Bechard of Perry; three daughters, Claire Therriault of Lisbon, Muriel Asselin of Florida and Doris Forgues of Turner; four stepsons, Lawrence Lessard of South Paris, Steven Lessard of Manchester, N.H., Brian Lessard of New York and Craig Lessard of Lewiston; one stepdaughter, Charlene Cloutier of Monmouth; and 10 grandchildren.
