DAR luncheon

BOWDOIN – Regent Sheila Desgrosseilliers has announced that Burnt Meadow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will entertain the DAR Good Citizen and Good Citizenship medal recipients and their parent at a luncheon at noon Saturday, April 8, at the home of Mrs. George Byras, Litchfield Road.

Lodge Sunday

MECHANIC FALLS – Tyrian Lodge 73, AF and AM, Dwinal Chapter, OES, and St. Andrews Chapter, RAC, members are invited to the First Congregational Church of Mechanic Falls for Palm Sunday services at 9 a.m. Sunday, April 9. Coffee hour will follow the service.

Essay contest

POLAND – Poland fourth grader (students age 10 or 11 in school or home-schooled) are invited to join Tripp Lake Improvement Association’s essay contest. Two winners will be awarded a week-long summer scholarship to the Maine Conservation Camp in Bryant Pond.

The student should complete by Friday, April 14, an essay titled “Why I’d Like To Attend Maine Conservation Camp and How I’d Use What I Learned,” The essay should be given to a teacher or mailed before April 15 to Linda Laskey, PO Box 119, West Poland, ME 04291.

Legion meeting

AUBURN – American Legion Post 31 will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, April 10, at the post home, 426 Washington St. Door will open at 6 p.m. Topics will include Boys State, baseball, nomination of officers and presentation of year patches and certificates.

POLAND – The Scholarship Committee of Excelsior Grange 5 has announced that applications for the Grange Scholarship are available from Barbara Driscoll, 21 Maple Lane, 998-4942, or Sally Fournier, 60 Pleasant St., Mechanic Falls, 345-9076. Applicants must be a grange member or related to a member of Excelsior Grange, and applications must be received by April 30. The winner will be notified by May 31.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on April 3 were: first/second tie, Lucille Bilodeau and Luke Merry with Martine Begert and Mary Leahey; third, Nancy Lindgren and Roger Briggs; fourth, Renette and Joe Reinhardt; fifth, Les Buzzell and Paul Sherman; second in B, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; first in C, Jeanne Plourde and Paul Beegel; second in C, Allie Boyer and Barbara Beegel.

Kids’ artwork

LEWISTON – The YWCA of Central Maine has joined the national celebration of Week of the Young Child: Building Better Futures for All Children.

The child care program celebrates the Week of the Young Child April 2 to 8 to recognize the needs of young children and thank educators and others involved in building better futures for all children.

“Early learning experiences are crucial to the growth and development of young children,” said Wendy Russell, YWCA child care director. “Week of the Young Child provides opportunities for all of us to recognize the importance of the early years and to work together to build better futures for all children.”

The YWCA Child Care Department will hold an art show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 7. The children’s artwork will be on display in the Wade Center gym. Parents and the public will be welcome.
