LEWISTON – The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program series at USM/Lewiston-Auburn on Friday, April 14, will feature Alan Elze in a presentation of the “History of the Bates Mill.”

Elze, retired and a Museum L-A docent and artifact cataloguer of the Bates Mill, served in the U.S. Navy for three decades.

During his studies in early American history at the University of Rhode Island, he became interested in the water-powered mills of New England. He has done extensive research on the mills of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.

The program will be held in the function room at USM/L-A beginning at noon. The cost, which includes lunch, is $6 with advance reservation or $8 at the doors, which will open at 11:30 a.m. Reservations should be made by noon on Thursday, April 13, by phone at 753-6510 or online at usm.maine.edu/lac.
