Homemakers

PERU – The Peru Extension Homemakers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Peru Elementary School. Those attending are asked to bring articles for the nursing home box.

The topic will be “Easter Card Paper Embroidery” with Jane Peterson as leader. Members will need a small pair of scissors and scotch tape and should bring materials for the centerpiece.

Tryouts set

PERU – Babe Ruth baseball will hold sign-ups and tryouts/practice from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 8, at the baseball field, Peru Elementary School.

Other sign-ups and tryouts/practices will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 17, and 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 20.

Those unable to attend the tryout but want to sign up should contact Coach Fenstermacher at 562-0911 or msitef@hotmail.com.

PD open house

MEXICO – An open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at the new site of the Mexico Police Department. The department is located 3 Recreation Drive, which is a portion of the old Mexico High School.

Need volunteers

MEXICO – The Friends of the Mexico Recreation Park are looking for volunteers to help with the clean-up efforts at the Mexico Recreation Park for the Mountain Music Festival.

Anyone wishing to volunteer for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 7, 8 and 9, is asked to call 364-0808 for more information. The work will center on painting and general clean-up.

Grange dinner

RUMFORD – Rumford Grange 115 will hold a public ham dinner with assorted pies for dessert from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at the Rumford Center. Take-out meals are available. Cost is adults, $7; children 12 and under, $3.

Hosting society

PERU – The Peru Historical Society and the Peru School will host the Finnish American Heritage Society of Maine at the school at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11.

The Heritage Society will provide a history and heritage of the Finnish people in Maine, along with dancing and costumes. The meeting is open to the public.

Quilters to meet

RUMFORD – Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 10, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. Those attending are asked to bring a show and tell item to share.

Parents night

MEXICO – A parent informational night for parents of children who will attend kindergarten in SAD 43 next year will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at Meroby Elementary School.

The meeting is for all incoming kindergarten students, whether they will attend Rumford Elementary School or Meroby Elementary School.
