LISBON – Robert F. Kingsbury, 93, passed away at the Lamp Residential Care Facility in Lisbon on April 6.

He was born in Ithaca, N.Y., on June 26, 1912, the son of Dr. Benjamin F. and Marguerite (Hempsted) Kingsbury. He grew up in Ithaca and graduated from Ithaca High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin in 1934, his master’s degree from Cornell in 1939 and his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1955.

He was an educator starting his career in high school level and finished as the head of the physics department at Bates College in Lewiston.

After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, golf, concerts, theater and travel.

He is survived by a son, Robert A. Kingsbury and his wife, Ruth, of Phippsburg; three daughters, Martha K. Bate and her husband, Kenneth, of Wayne, Mary K. Clark of Schaumburg, Ill. and Rita K. Cassellius and her husband, William, of Norwalk, Conn.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mary; a brother, Ernest; and sisters, Marguerite and Mary.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Lamp, the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and Montello Heights for the care and kindness they have shown to Robert over the last several years.
