LEWISTON – David Bochtler, Bochtler Insurance Agency/Allstate Insurance, presents a $500 gift to the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice new Hospice House. The grant will be used to support volunteer services at the Hospice House.

“Allstate believes that it is very important for corporations to take an active interest in the communities they serve. Allstate is proud to support such a worthwhile and compelling cause through the foundation,” said Allstate Foundation Chairwoman Mary Capetola. “The grant from the Allstate Foundation will provide much needed support for Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.”

Bochtler, a hospice and bereavement volunteer, was instrumental in securing the gift that was awarded through the Allstate Foundation Agency Hands in the Community Program that recognizes organizations where their employees volunteer.

“Volunteers are vital members of our hospice team, providing support and comfort to patients and their families,” said Julie Shackley, president/CEO. “With the opening of the Hospice House, our need for dedicated volunteers has greatly increased. Allstate is to be commended for recognizing the valuable volunteer efforts of their employees by lending their support to those local organizations.”

The Hospice House in Auburn opened to patient care in November. The facility, the first of its kind in Maine, cares for patients in the final weeks or days of life. In its first five months of operation more than 100 patients have received care at the facility.

Established in 1952, The Allstate Foundation is an independent corporation funded by contributions from the Allstate Insurance Co. Grants are awarded to non-profit organizations that seek to improve the quality of life in communities across the country.

AHCH is a nonprofit Medicare-certified agency that annually provides comprehensive hospice care to more than 800 residents of central and western Maine through its local offices in Lewiston, Bridgton, Dixfield, Oxford and Wilton. For more information, visit www.AHCH.org.
