AUBURN – Adam Meservier, a seventh-grader at St. Peter and Sacred Heart School, took third place at the National Geographic Bee state finals on March 31 at the University of Maine at Farmington.

For the past two years, Meservier was the school’s representative to the Androscoggin County Spelling Bee. He is usually the school cantor at Masses. Meservier placed first in the school in the National Geographic Bee, the spelling bee and the civic oration contest.

He is the son of Normand and Lisa Meservier of Lewiston.

Bees were held in schools with fourth through eighth grade students throughout the state. School-level winners took a qualifying test, which was submitted to the National Geographic Society. The society invited the students with the top scores to compete at the state level.

The state winner will represent Maine in the national finals at the National Geographic Society, headquarters in Washington, D.C., May 23 and 24. The state winner will receive $100 and the trip to Washington. The national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship.
