BETHEL – In recognition of World Tai Chi and Qigong Day on Saturday, April 29, the classes of Tai Chi and Qigong for All will be open to the public free. Two classes will be available. In Bethel, the free class will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday April 26, at the Bethel Family Health Center. In Norway, the free class will be from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Monday April 24, at the Harper Conference Room, Ripley Medical Building.

World Tai Chi and Qigong Day is celebrated in 63 nations with over 1,600 events worldwide. The U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, the American Public Health Association, National YMCA and the National Council on the Aging are promoting participation in an event.

Both are associated with lowered blood pressure, increased respiratory capacity, reduced stress and improved balance. Research is studying the effect of the ancient Chinese movement arts on the immune system and as a tool to help manage diabetes.

The classes will be taught by Betsey Foster, MPH. No preregistration is necessary.
