THE DEAL: Delta Air Lines Inc. and negotiators for its pilots union agreed to undisclosed long-term pay and benefit cuts.

THE STRIKE THREAT: The union’s promise to strike if its contract was thrown out by an arbitration panel is on hold for now. The panel’s decision has been suspended.

THE FUTURE: The Atlanta-based airline’s 5,930 pilots have to ratify the deal; If they don’t, the company’s contract rejection request could resurface, as could the union’s strike threat. No date for a vote has been set.
