NEW YORK (AP) – A 3-year-old boy out for a ride with his family on Easter Sunday was shot and killed when a stray bullet pierced their minivan, police said.

The incident occurred about 2 p.m., when two groups of men began arguing in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx and one of the men pulled out a gun and started shooting, police said.

A bullet tore through the sliding door of the family’s Honda Odyssey, striking the boy in the chest. Witnesses said the boy was sitting in the back of the minivan with several other children, who were unharmed.

A man at the scene tried to revive the boy before a passing livery cab driver rushed him to a hospital.

The boy was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later. His name wasn’t released.

Police were looking for the shooter.
