FARMINGTON – Gus is the pet of the week at the Franklin County Animal Shelter. He is a huge handsome cat that entered the shelter as a stray a few months ago.

His girth is part of his charm and it has been the reason for his name. He is named after the pudgy mouse in Cinderella, “Gus Gus.”

The mouse in the movie was a little slow-witted. However, Gus the cat is quite smart and will often try to outsmart and outplay his human friends. Staff said his characteristic is that of a man’s cat, an independent creature that will love to play with a human on his own terms.

He often races about the room cornering defenseless dust bunnies and devouring imaginary tiny creatures. For more information on him or other pets at the shelter, call 778-2638.

New dogs at the shelter include a female husky mix from Phillips and a female beagle mix form Rangeley.

The shelter annual meeting will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at the Farmington Elks Lodge. There will be entertainment, a silent auction and refreshments.
