LEWISTON – The art work of Marj DiRenzo of Auburn is being featured during April, sponsored by the Woman’s Hospital Association of Central Maine Medical Center.

DiRenzo said she loves using vibrant color because she feels it is uplifting and exciting. She finds that painting brings joy to her and the viewer. Without it, she said she would be lost.

DiRenzo was educated in St. Paul, Minn., graduating from Macalester College in 1953 with a bachelor of arts degree. She later attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth, in preparation for teaching.

She took oil painting and watercolor classes and decided she preferred watercolor. She took lessons from Nora Stevens, who had been a student of the well known artist, Edgar Whitney.

After moving to Maine, raising a family and teaching seventh-grade language arts for 25 years, she has devoted the last number of years to watercolor painting, teaching and showing her paintings throughout Maine. She is a member of Sebascodegan Gallery in Harpswell.

DiRenzo has taken workshops from Margery Schuler and Jan Kirlburn. She is a member of two groups of artists who meet regularly to talk, have critiques and paint: the Monday Morning Art Circle and the Mid Maine Art Guild.

The Woman’s Hospital Association supports Central Maine Medical Center and its patients. Those who would like more information on the association or the monthly artist showings should call the WHA at 795-2295.
