Open house

GREENE – Androscoggin Grange 8 will hold an open house on Thursday, April 20, at the Grange Hall, 99 Main St. Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m. with open house to follow at 7:30 p.m. State Master Steven Verrill will speak on the Grange. Cindy Morin will present musical numbers. All are welcome. Members are celebrating Grange Month.

KC supper

LEWISTON – The Holy Cross Council 12652, Knights of Columbus, will hold its final bean supper of the season from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 6, in the church basement, 1080 Lisbon St. Cost is $6 a person; $3 for age 12 and under. Genealogical meet

AUBURN – The Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society will hold a general meeting on Saturday, April 22, at the Fr. Leo E. Begin Library, corner of Academy and High streets.

The meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m., and at 10 a.m. there will be a speaker, Debbie S. D’Amboise, who has conducted genealogical research for 20 years. D’Amboise is employed in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints library in Topsham. She will discuss how the church libraries can help people locate family information. She will also share tips she has learned in her own research.

Church musical

AUBURN – The Court Street Baptist Church has invited the public to a musical presentation, “Bind Us Together,” written by Steve and Annie Chapman and Dennis and Karla Worley, at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 23.

The central theme is understanding the idea of reconciliation; spouse to spouse, parent to child, neighbor to neighbor, boys and girls, back to God through the Holy Spirit. It is an outreach program. For more information, call 784-6661.

Lifeguard class

AUBURN – The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston is offering a lifeguard certification course on April 25, 26 and 27 and May 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11. Combined classroom and pool time will run about 6:30 to 10 p.m. for each class.

There are several prerequisites for the course, including a 500-yard swim and a minimum age of 15. Upon completion of the course, the lifeguard certification and first aid are good for three years and the CPR expires after one year.

Course fee is $200, including materials. Registration is open, but class size is limited to eight students. Those interested should register at the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA, 62 Turner St. For more information, call 795-4095 or stop by the YMCA.

Marines needed

AUBURN – The Maine Corps League’s Central Maine Detachment is seeking more former and present Marines to join.

The group is making plans for the Memorial Day parade and needs Marines to take part. Other activities are also being discussed.

The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at the New Auburn American Legion Post 153 hall. Use the side door on Cook Street. A lunch will be served. For more information, call Ray Lemieux, commandant, at 784-0656.

Bridge winners

AUBURN – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at Schooner Estates on April 17 were: first, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; second, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; third, Nancy and Larry Farmer; fourth, Martine Begert and Mary Leahey; first in C, Betty and Doug Sise.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays at the Multi-Purpose Center, a mini-lesson is given, and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 783-1734 for more information.
