LEWISTON – The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library will hold a special book sale from Monday to Saturday, April 24 through 29, with proceeds to benefit the Maine Libraries Helping Gulf Libraries Project.

Books may be purchased throughout the week during the library’s regular hours: Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is located at 200 Lisbon St. at the corner of Lisbon and Pine streets.

The Maine Library Association organized the project. Participating libraries and library friends groups across the state will hold fundraisers April 24 to 29. The list of participating libraries is posted on the MLA Web site at www.mainelibraries.org.

The purpose of the project is to raise money to help rebuild libraries in Louisiana and Mississippi that were devastated by the hurricanes last year. Libraries in the Gulf region need money more than anything else right. Many of the libraries do not even have the basics such as a roof or electricity. Maine libraries are focusing on raising money that the libraries can use to get back into operation.

The funds raised will be divided between the Louisiana Library Association Hurricane Relief Fund and the Mississippi Library Association Hurricane Relief Fund.
