LEWISTON – An exchange French immersion program is being organized for students ages 12 to 14 to take place in the Beauce region of Canada this summer.

The students will stay with a French family and be immersed in the French language for two weeks. As an exchange, Maine families will host a French student for the same two-week period.

The Franco-American Heritage Center is sponsoring the program as part of their mission to help preserve, pass on and promote the language as well as the Franco-American traditions, culture and heritage.

The center is hoping that French teachers will speak to their students about the program and encourage parents to let their child participate. It is anticipated that it will take place in August and the families will meet half way by car for lunch and a few hours of getting acquainted. There is no cost.
