NORWAY – Stone-Smart Post, American Legion, Auxiliary met recently with President Kim Hansen presiding.

Barbara Henley gave a children and youth report. She recently visited Guy E. Rowe School and presented the second-graders with a booklet, “Birth of America,” in celebration of Children and Youth Month.

Lucille Allen reported that she had received a thank-you note and photos from a teacher and her students in Mississippi. The school was flooded and everything was lost during Katrina. She wrote that they had used the donation to buy supplies and a rack on which to store supplies. The teacher was found through Allen’s son, who lives in the area.

Poppy Chairwoman Kim Hansen announced that Poppy Days will be held Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13, at Rite Aid and Lake Store; Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20, at Wal-Mart. Christine Weiss, Theresa Dodge, Joyce Clifford, Rose Moulton, Marie Pingree, Hansen and Marilyn Jones will have the poppies.

Hansen, Clifford, Elaine Rogers and Jones were chosen as delegates to the department convention in Bangor in June. Joyce Bickford will be alternate.

Members voted donations to the department president and District 2 president; to Rose Moulton for flowers for Veterans Memorial Park; to secretary and treasurer for their year of service; purchased flags and flag booklets for Rowe School second-graders; $25 to Children Miracle Network; $25 to Cory Dan Scholarship Fund.

Election of officers for the coming year was held. Officers are as follows: Kim Hansen, president; Marilyn Jones, first vice; Jean Millett, second vice; Joyce Clifford, secretary; Rose Moulton, treasurer; Barbara Henley, historian; Marie Pingree, sergeant-at-arms; Christine Weiss, chaplain; Beulah Ayer, Ellen Snow and Eleanor Durant, executive committee.

The meeting was preceded by a meatloat supper with strawberry shortcake for dessert. Arnie Pendexter and Ernest Clifford were in charge with other Legionnaires helping.
