Seniors meet

LIVERMORE FALLS – The Livermore Falls-Jay Senior Citizens met at Murray Hall on April 17 with 27 members present. Chairwoman Shirley Couture opened the meeting. It was reported Jim Miller is still on the sick list.

Couture said the Parkview Living Center will hold a free senior citizens buffet lunch on Tuesday, May 2, to be served at 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Members interested in going should call 897-2800 to reserve a seat.

The fourth Monday in May will be the last meeting before the summer hiatus. The 50/50 was won by Dot Wilson. The meeting was adjourned, and cards and games were played.

New scanner

FARMINGTON – The Radiology Department at Franklin Memorial Hospital has installed a 64-slice computed tomography scanner that provides precise imaging to help physicians obtain the information needed to diagnose disease and illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and stroke. In cases of trauma, CT can quickly identify injuries to the liver, spleen, kidneys or other internal organs.

A 64-slice scanner can gather a high-resolution image of a heart, brain, or a pair of lungs in less than five seconds. A scan of the whole body (in search of a blood clot, for example) takes about 10 seconds.

The new CT scanner will be available during normal business hours and “on-call” 24-hours a day.
