LEWISTON – America’s aging population reached a turning point in 2006. One of the nation’s largest generations, the baby boomers, started turning 60. According to SeniorsPlus, as many as 78 million people constitute the baby boom generation, and they stand to make an enormous contribution to the rich character and wisdom older adults offer.

“Baby boomers are among the millions of mid-life and older adults who are continuing to redefine how we age,” said Pam Allen, executive director “We need to be ready for an aging population that’s as multifaceted as any in our history.”

As a celebration of Older Americans Month, SeniorsPlus will offer Health and Wellness luncheons at five dining sites throughout the tri-county area. SeniorsPlus will offer a presentation on health and wellness, door prizes, giveaways and a special meal. Festivities at each location will begin at 11 a.m.

The schedule will be as follows:

Lisbon: Monday, May 22. at the dining site, MTM Community Center, School Street

Turner: Tuesday, May 23, at Boofy Quimby Hall.

Lewiston: Wednesday, May 24, at the Multi-Purpose Center.

Rumford: Thursday, May 25, at the Rumford Senior Center, 50 Congress St.

Wilton: Friday, May 26, at the SeniorsPlus Community Center.

A donation of $2.50 is requested for seniors and $4 for all others.
