DIXFIELD – Coffeehouse will present the return of Dennis Moro on Saturday, April 29, with doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church annex.

Moro was born and raised in Maine and began playing guitar in his early teens. In his late teens he moved to south Florida and began a solo musical career. He later joined the band “Dakota.”

Upon returning to Maine in 1997, he continued pursuing his music and recently joined the Maine Songwriters Association. He has been the lead guitarist for the Blake Brothers Band for about a year.

He will perform songs by Hank Williams, Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Jim Croce and others as well as several songs he has written.

Coffeehouse admission is $5 for adults; children under 12 are free. Gourmet coffees, tea and soda will be available for purchase along with a selection of homemade desserts. For more information, call 562-7783.

Woods fire sparks reward offer

DIXFIELD – The Maine Forest Service is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to a conviction regarding a “very suspicious” woods fire off Canton Point Road Wednesday.

Maine Forest Service Ranger Jay Bernard said the fire only burned two-tenths of an acre at 972 Canton Point Road. But, had Dixfield firefighters not knocked it down so quickly, the wind could have spread it toward nearby homes, he added.

“There were structures threatened, but there was no damage,” he said.

Stopping short of calling it arson, Bernard said, “Spontaneous combustion doesn’t add up. It’s a human cause.”

He also said a local homeowner tried to suppress the fire but couldn’t, and called the fire department at about 1:10 p.m.
