STANDISH – Applications are being accepted for the 2006 Saint Joseph’s College boys’ basketball camps on Sebago Lake. Head coach Rob Sanicola and his staff will conduct two camps.

The father-son overnight camp will be held June 10-11 and is open to boys ages 6 to 13.

Day camp will be held July 17-21 and is open to boys from 7 to 13.

Fishermen’s Open House set for Saturday

HARPSWELL – Fishing Families for Harpswell is sponsoring its third annual Fishermen’s Open House on Saturday, May 6 at the Merriconeag Grange in Harpswell.

This fund-raiser will benefit Fishing Families for Harpswell initiatives and the Campaign to Keep Holbrook’s Wharf Working.

The Holbrook Community Foundation is trying to raise $1.5 million to purchase the historic wharf and protect it from private development, ensuring its availability for future commercial fishing use.

“This is what we’re all about, really,” said FFFH President JIm Merryman, who is a lobsterman. “Maintaining a way of life for fishermen here in Harpswell. They’re not making any more waterfront, and every little bit we can keep will help in the long run.”

The event will feature lobster boat tours, a touch tank with sea creatures and the infamous hypothermia tank. Free cups of fish chowder will be served, and beverages and snacks will be available.

Fishing Families will raffle off eight lobsters, four pounds of fresh scallops, a day at sea aboard a working lobster boat and two dinners for four at this summer’s Shore Dinner.

Members from the Campaign to Keep Holbrook’s Working will be present to answer questions and make a slide show presentation.

Merriconeag Grange is located on Route 123 in Harpswell.
