This is in response to John Conners’ letter about immigration policy (April 27).

First and foremost, we are a nation of laws, and the U.S. already has a process in place for people who want to come to this country. Mr. Connors used the term “undocumented,” which is only a partial truth. They are undocumented for only one reason: they are here illegally! Meaning, laws were broken.

This action leads to other laws being broken, such as, illegal employment, fraudulent identification documents and a host of others. What also should be against the law is illegals’ use of health care and schooling at taxpayer expense.

There are somewhere between 11 million and 20 million illegal aliens in this country, with another 3 million crossing over this year and the same for next year if nothing is done, all with no criminal or medical background checks.

I agree that this is a national shame.

The federal government has failed this country miserably when it comes to border security and enforcing the laws they were sworn to uphold. Terrorists can cross just as easily as illegals.

And one more thing. I would like people to stop using the term “immigrants” when referring to illegal aliens. The words are not interchangeable. To do so insults and degrades those who have come through the system to become U.S. citizens, to pursue both the American dream and their own and, maybe, just make this country a little better.
