NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) – Brandon Moss had three hits and scored three runs Friday night to lead the Portland Sea Dogs to a 7-2 Eastern League victory over the New Britain Rock Cats, and their sixth win in the last seven games.
Moss, a .176 hitter coming into the game, had two doubles and a single to lead Portland’s 14-hit barrage. Jeremy West had two hits and reached base four times in five plate appearances for the Sea Dogs, while Jay Johnson added a single, double and sacrifice fly.
Starter Jose Vaquedano (2-1) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four in 5 2/3 innings for Portland (16-11).
New Britain starter Errol Simonitsch (1-2) yielded eight hits and walked four in six innings.
Matt Moses had three hits for New Britain (10-14), which had its three-game winning streak snapped. Danny Matienzo added a double and an RBI.
Portland is hitting .301 in four games at New Britain Stadium and .217 in its other 23 starts.
