After surveys in four Maine cities, including Lewiston and Auburn, showed 76 percent of renters would opt to live in smoke-free apartments, the Smoke-Free Housing Coalition has come out with smokefreeforme.org – an online, no-smoking-please list of places up for lease.

On Friday, the site had one listing for Auburn, two for Lisbon Falls, one in Andover and 20 for Portland.

Landlords can list apartments and prospective tenants can search the lists for free.

“As we learn more about how the toxins in secondhand smoke travel through walls, windows, plumbing and ventilation units, the demand for safe living environments will only increase,” Doug Dieckman at the American Cancer Society said in a statement.
