PARIS – Barbara Swan Frost will speak on “Thayer House Memories” at the meeting of the Paris Cape Historical Society on Sunday, May 21.

The Thayer House sat on a lot across the street from the First Congregational Church. It was torn down about 25 years ago, and the Fox School parking lot occupies the site.

Frost has brought several artifacts to the society museum, such as an old soup tureen and soup bowls, that were used in the Thayer House and she plans to bring more for the society’s collection.

The meeting at the Paris Cape Historical Society Museum, 77 High St., South Paris, will begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the program, and the public is invited. The museum is handicapped accessible. The society is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

The updated South Paris Cemetery Book is available at $40. Smaller items are also available for sale in the bookstore.

Spring fair

WEST PARIS – A spring fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at West Paris Grange 298 Hall, 4 Church St. For table rental, call 674-3241 or 674-3046. Cost is is $5 a table.

Heritage meeting

WEST PARIS – The Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at the Heritage Center. Following a brief business meeting a video of Conan O’Brien’s visit to Finland, where he met with President Tarja Halonen, will be shown. It will be followed by a coffee social. The public is welcome.

Rummage sale

NORWAY – Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary 82 will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at post home, Main Street. Featured will be clothes, white elephant items, food and perennial plants. From 1 to 2 p.m. there will be a bag sale – all you can get in bag for $1 on clothes and white elephant articles.

A cutlery sale will also be held, with cookbooks, stoneware, quick mixes and soy wax candles available. Marjy Sessions will take orders. Eliane Rogers will be in the kitchen providing snacks, light lunch of soup and assorted sandwiches and desserts. A raffle of holiday porch decorations will be held.

Web classes

PARIS – The Paris Public Library will present a series of classes on constructing Web pages using HTML, led by local Web page designer Judith Hayes. The five-week course will begin on Wednesday, May 24. Classes will start at 7 p.m. and will last about 90 minutes.

Participants will build their own Web pages learning the basic steps and language. The program is free. To register, contact library staff by calling 743-6994 or e-mailing paris.public.library@MSLN.net, as space is limited. Anyone interested may also bring their own laptop and use the library’s wireless connection.

Racing director

OXFORD – The Oxford County Agricultural Society has announce that Caldwell “Caldie” Jackson has been named the 2006 racing director for the Oxford Fair. Jackson serves as vice president of the Oxford County Agricultural Society and is a key coordinator of the first annual Oxford Fair Golf Tournament. Dean birthday

WEST PARIS – Lena Dean celebrated her 91st birthday on April 26. She received cards, gifts, flowers and a cake made by her friend, Bertha DeHaas. Dean is a member of the West Paris Senior Citizens, West Paris Grange 298 and the West Paris Universalist Church.
