NORWAY – Jim Hamalianen, music teacher at Rowe Elementary School, recently nominated 27 students to become the April students of the month. His nomination was based on the students’ classroom citizenship shown during music class.

The students have had their picture posted on a bulletin board outside the main office. In addition, their partner in education, Stephens Memorial Hospital, has rewarded their good citizen efforts. Liz Bennoch, human resources manager at Stephens, presented the students special animated guitar pins.

Stephens Memorial and Rowe have had a school-business partnership since the spring of 1995. Some of the past activities have included hospital volunteers reading at the school, career fairs, Christmas parade floats and student artwork displays at the hospital.

The Oxford Hills Community Education Exchange coordinates the partnership. The exchange’s goal is to create and coordinate similar partnerships for each school in the district. Any business interested in partnering with a school should call Maureen Howard at the exchange, 743-8972.
