AUGUSTA – Maine Project Learning Tree, a program of the Maine TREE Foundation, received support from the Davis Conservation Foundation and the Environmental Education and Training Partnership for the third year of teacher training in the Forest Inventory Growth Project.

The program trains Maine middle and high school teachers to bring students into local forest areas to investigate ecosystems and share their findings with other students around the state through a Maine Forest Service Web page.

This year’s training includes a technology component using GPS, simulated forest programs and longitudinal forestry data from the Holt Forest in Arrowsic.

In collaboration with EAST Alliance, teachers from Portland, Auburn and Gorham are invited to participate and receive training in the use of technology to support the concept of teaching through universal design compatible with Project Learning Tree curriculum and Forest Inventory Growth protocol.

EAST Alliance partnership offers an additional training opportunity through a two-day August conference in Augusta for teachers choosing to expand the regular Forest Inventory Growth training.

Interested teachers are required to register for the three-day training to take place at Camp Kieve in Nobleboro from June 25 through 27. All teachers will receive tools, books and necessary supplies to set up plots either on their school grounds, at an Outdoor classroom or town forest. Registration is limited to 15 teachers.
