WATERFORD – A man threatening suicide on the Mill Hill Road held off police for nearly four hours Saturday before surrendering peacefully around 9 p.m.

The man, whose identity was not released at press time, had barricaded himself in his home, said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. While talking with negotiators, he had threatened to use weapons.

Following his surrender, the man was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway for observation, McCausland said.
