LEWISTON – Brian Arthur Gilbert died May 30, surrounded by family and friends at d’Youville Pavilion, where he was a resident the past five years.

He was born in Lewiston on Nov. 5, 1940, the son of Arthur John Gilbert and Mary Theresa Shrum. He was educated in Lewiston schools and became a carpenter by trade. He also worked in a supervisory position at several manufacturing plants in the Lewiston/Auburn area.

He married Ernestine (Tina) Pease June 30, 1962. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, boating, gardening and woodworking. Well-known for his sense of humor and corny jokes, he was loved by all who met him. His caretakers at d’Youville formed a special bond with him and gave him loving, compassionate care.

He is survived by two children, Dianne Cyr and husband, Arnold, of Minot and Brian David Gilbert of Auburn; three grandchildren, Stephanie Sawyer and Tres Cyr of Minot and Kelsea Gilbert of Auburn; two sisters, Rachel Morin of Auburn and Joanne Mills of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a brother, Eugene Gilbert and wife, Lydia, of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Nellie Dyer of Auburn, who was like a mother to him.
