Mothers to meet

Retiree meeting

AUBURN – The Maine Retiree Council will hold its annual meeting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 9, at the Alden M. Gayton American Legion Post 31, 426 Washington St. North. Retirees of all military services and their spouses are invited to attend.

Women’s ride

AUBURN – The Bicycle Coalition of Maine will sponsor the fifth annual Women’s Ride for Heart Health with 5-, 10- and 25-mile rides on Sunday, June 25. Plans are under way to include a nutrition education presentation and free massage therapy.

There will be numerous prize giveaways, including a diamond pendant valued at almost $800. The all-women ride is $15, with proceeds benefiting BCM’s education mission of teaching bike safety to more than 15,000 school children across Maine each year.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer among women in Maine. Women can improve health with changes in lifestyle, including quitting smoking, regular exercise like bicycling and heart healthy foods.

French weekend

ROCKLAND – Penobscot School will feature a special weekend French immersion program Friday through Sunday, June 9 to 11. Native speaker Nomie Marciano of Crteil, France, will lead the French weekend immersion course from 5 p.m. Friday, June 9, through 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11. Participants may elect to attend one day. Only French will be spoken the entire time.

Tuition for the full weekend program is $219. The fee includes instruction, activities and materials, accommodations and meals. Participants may register for one day of the weekend program, at the discretion of the instructor. The fee is $108.
