YARMOUTH – The Maine Jazz Festival Series will present its second concert – a CD release celebration featuring the Mark Kleinhaut Trio -Saturday, June 10, at the First Universalist Church. The trio’s fifth CD, “Holding the Center,” was released nationally May 16, and is already garnering national attention. “Holding the Center” is currently being played on more than 50 radio stations around the country, including Jim Wilke’s nationally syndicated program Jazz After Hours.

Members of the Mark Kleinhaut Trio, recognized as masters of improvisation, are Kleinhaut on guitar; Jim Lyden, bass; and Les Harris Jr., drums. They will play music from “Holding the Center,” as well as some of their favorite jazz standards at the June 10 concert.

Inspiration for Kleinhaut’s compositions comes from the places he visits, like the villages of southern Cuba or places on the outer banks of North Carolina. The music of “Holding the Center” draws on influences outside of the jazz vocabulary to expand the trio’s palette of improvisational inspirations. By weaving acoustic and electronic sounds with rock and world music elements, Kleinhaut creates some of his most engaging music to date.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. The church is at 97 Main St. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for children under 16, and may be purchased at Greetings, Main Street, Yarmouth; Books Etc, Route One, Falmouth; and Books Etc, Exchange Street, Portland. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the show.
