CARTHAGE – Maine State Police are looking for information about a vandalized gate leading to snowmobile and ATV trails in town, Trooper Scott Nichols said Wednesday.
About $300 in damage was done to the gate, which Nichols said was destroyed between May 13 and 31. The damage was not discovered until members of the local snowmobile club and the Webb River Valley ATV club went out to the trail off Francis Place this week and found that the gate had been ripped down.
Club members have talked about offering a reward for information about the gate, Nichols said.
If found, the vandal will be charged with criminal mischief, he added.
“These clubs donate a lot of their own time and money – and that’s the reason they put gates up – to keep people from destroying” their trails, Nichols said.
