SABATTUS – United Ambulance Service donated a 1997 Horton Type III ambulance to the Sabattus Fire Department on May 24.
The new vehicle replaces the current Squad 8, which is a 1988 Ford. Squad 8 is mainly used as a utility vehicle, as it carries necessary equipment to an array of emergency situations.
Paul Gosselin, executive director for United, said he is pleased that the vehicle can be used for a purpose other than transporting patients. The donation is the second of its kind, as United donated a similar ambulance to the Greene Fire Department in 2003.
United Ambulance Service has been the primary emergency medical provider for the town of Sabattus for the past 25 years. In 2005, United responded to 330 emergency calls and transported 240 patients as a result. For more information, visit www.unitedambulance.com.
