LEWISTON – Elie R. Duguay, 83, a longtime resident of Gordon Street in Livermore Falls, died Friday, June 2, at Central Maine Medical Center, where he had been a patient for one day. He had been a resident of Marshwood Nursing Home for two months.

He was born in Chisholm on Aug. 13, 1922, the son of Valmore and Rose (Groleau) Duguay. He was a graduate of Jay High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed at the Brooklyn shipyard Pier 92 in Manhattan, N.Y.

On Feb. 3, 1945, he married Alice Nadeau at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay.

He was well-known in the area for his dedication to genealogy and as town historian for both Jay and Livermore Falls.

He worked for International Paper Co. in Jay at the Otis Mill and Androscoggin Mill in the recost department, and also as supervisor of the groundwood department, retiring in 1983.

He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay.

He was a member of the I.P. Quarter Century Club, member and past president of the Maine Genealogical Society, a member of the VFW, Frank L. Mitchell, Post No. 3335 of Jay, American Legion, George Bunten, Post No. 10 of Livermore Falls and the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 320 of Jay.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice; three daughters, Patricia Richard and her husband, Charles J., of Fort Kent, Claire Duguay of Biddeford, and Denise Pineau and her husband, Raymond, of Jay; a son, Peter and his wife, Laurie, of Livermore; two brothers, Edmond Duguay and his wife, Pauline, of Livermore and Florida, and Maurice Duguay of Jay; four sisters, Pauline Dumais and her husband, Gilbert, of Lewiston, Bernice Bilodeau and her husband, Norman, of Livermore Falls and Florida, Loretta Desjardins of Livermore Falls, and Lauri Ann Dorion of Jay and Florida; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey; a brother, Guy Duguay; and two sisters, Vivian Rea and Annette Finley.
