-Thursday afternoon the Lewiston Daily Sun and the Lewiston Morning News baseball teams will play ball on the A. A. A. grounds. Ten cents admission will be charged, the proceeds to go towards paying for the grounds. This will be the second game between the two teams and doubtless will be a great contest as the Sun boys won the first game.

-For the fifth annual reunion of Glover’s Band, an old-time musical organization, arrangements have been practically completed. A number of the “old boys” met last night in Lasters’ Hall, Auburn, where after tuning up they rendered a program of lively music that was well received by pedestrians who paused on the sidewalks to listen.

50 Years Ago, 1956

-The State Park Commission received authority to contract with the J. R. Partridge Co. of Augusta to build new parking picnic and camping areas at Bradbury Mountain State Park at Pownal. The company was low bidder today at $30,359.50.

-Ralph D. Ridley of Auburn, proprietor of Ridley’s Laundry at 23 Bridge St., Lewiston, said last night he is closing his business at the end of this week and plans to retire. The laundry has been in business 44 years.

AUGUSTA – Maine joined four other Northeast states in a lawsuit against the federal Environmental Protection Agency on Friday, contending that a recent EPA ruling will increase the region’s problem with acid rain.

Attorney General James Tierney said the EPA failed to carry out its responsibilities under the federal Clean Air Act when it recently allowed two coal-fired plants in Ohio to substantially increase their air-pollution emissions.
