LEWISTON – Lou McNally of the Maine Public Broadcasting Network will host “Made in Maine” from Falcon Footwear in Lewiston next week in a new episode of the network’s signature series. The episode airs at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15.

“Made in Maine,” in its 18th year on MPBN, visited Falcon Footwear for an episode called “Shoes.”

Despite the decline in the fortunes in the Maine shoe industry over the past few decades, some companies have managed to survive by specializing in niches. Such is the case with Falcon Footwear, a subsidiary of Magnum Boots, which has found a market for goods labeled “Made in the USA.”

Laws mandating American-made boots for postal workers and those serving in the military have been good for business, and that in turn has helped employees like Lorraine Brown keep their jobs in the same Bates Mill factory for more than 50 years. Manager David Grant explains the distinction between American-built and American-made, and sales manager Roland Landry talks about what goes into making Falcon Footwear’s products.
