LEWISTON – Maylene Claire I. Peralta, M.D., an endocrinologist, has been appointed to the Central Maine Medical Center Medical Staff. She has joined Wesley Fairfield, M.D., at Central Maine Endocrinology, where her primary practice focus is the treatment of diabetes and lipid disorders.

Before coming to Lewiston-Auburn, Peralta served for three years as medical director at Pleasant Point Health Center in Perry where she provided medical care to members of Maine’s Passamaquoddy Tribe.

A graduate of the University of the Philippines in Quezon City, Philippines, she earned her medical degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine in Manila. She completed an internship at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital in Manila, and served an internship and residency in internal medicine at the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn. In 2002 she completed a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at Loyola University Chicago Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. She has authored and published articles on diabetes, thyroid and bone disorders, and has presented research abstracts at various professional meetings.

In 2001 the 1st Endocrine Fellows Forum for Excellence in Philadelphia named her an outstanding fellow in endocrinology for presenting the only clinical case abstract selected from among 70 research and clinical case abstracts. The following year, Pfizer Inc. recognized her with a Scholars in Endocrinology Award for exceptional performance as a fellow in endocrinology.

Peralta is certified in endocrinology and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and The Endocrine Society.
