JAY – A Maine State Police trooper shot and wounded a man late Tuesday after responding to a call on Maycomber Hill Road.

Few details about the shooting were available late Tuesday night. Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said the shooting happened about 10 p.m.

The wounded man was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for treatment of at least one gunshot wound. The injury was not believed to be life-threatening, McCausland said.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting. Maine State Police, in accordance with protocol, were handing the investigation over to another department.

“Because it is a police-involved shooting, the case will be handled and investigated by the Attorney General’s Office,” McCausland said.

Neither the name of the trooper involved nor the name of the victim was available.
