Fortunes seem to be coming to the people of East Warren. A valuable lead mine discovered some years ago by residents of the place is soon to be reopened by capitalists from away. The mine is located on the land of Randall Simmons, but by contract when first opened the mining privilege and mine is owned largely by Benjamin McIntyre. The people of this vicinity are enthusiastic over the present prosper, hoping other mines over which Boston parties are interested may be reopened and valuable gold and silver produced, that being the mineral in which they abound.
50 Years Ago, 1956
A 102-year-old tradition was broken this week in Androscoggin Superior Court, according to Clerk of Courts Patrick F. Malia. This was in the method of calling off the pending civil docket.
Instead of calling the entire docket, Malia called those cases which have been on the docket at least two years with no other action being taken since the suit was entered. These were ordered stricken from the docket unless attorneys could show cause why they should remain on the docket.
According to Malia, the normal procedure of calling the pending civil docket usually takes about two hours. By calling only those older cases, this time consuming process has been considerably shortened and apparently has proved satisfactory to attorneys.

TEL AVIV, Israel – Israeli warplanes streaking 600 miles into hostile territory destroyed an almost-completed Iraqi nuclear reactor outside Baghdad, a facility Isreal claimed would have made atomic bombs for use against the Jewish state.
WASHINGTON – The Reagan administration condemned on Monday the Israeli destruction of an Iraqi nuclear reactor which U.S. intelligence sources said would have become operational in about two weeks and was capable of producing weapons grade material.
