FARMINGTON – Robert Curtis Hobbs, 84, of Farmington, died at Edgewood Rehab and Living Center on June 7.
He was born on Aug. 12, 1921, in Farmington, the son of Roy E. and Georgia (Coolidge) Hobbs. He was educated in Farmington, served a short time in the U.S. Army during World War II, and worked at the Maine Skewer and Dowel Co. until it closed. At that time, the company presented him with a gold watch for his 37 years of service.
He was a member of the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, which, along with the Adult Sunday School, he attended faithfully until the last seven months. He was also a member of the American Legion here in Farmington, which he enjoyed (especially the suppers) attending with his brother.
He loved his church and family; he like TV, movies, bingo, music, and in his younger days, fishing, hunting, board games, cards, swimming in the pool, camping and all church functions and family gatherings.
Edgewood and the staff were his second family, and they provided him with many activities, good times, and support – even taking him in a wheelchair to the Franklin County Fair.
He leaves his sister-in-law, Wilma (Kyes) Hobbs; nephew, Stephen R. Hobbs of Long Island, N.Y.; nieces, Karen H. Billings of Deer Isle and Kathy A. Hobbs of Barrington, Ill.; four grandnephews, Matthew Billings, Joel Billings, Brian Billings, Jeremy Koshak; and two grandnieces, E. Ruby Hobbs and Sarah Koshak.
He was predeceased by his parents and younger brother, Richard Hobbs.
